Following the flood in Macedonia caused by heavy rain on 6 August 2016, 25 people lost their lives and residents of several hundred households lost the roof over their heads, mostly in Skopje and Tetovo. The goal of the project is the ad hoc improvement of the living conditions of flood victims.

Humanitarian aid for the victims of flood in Macedonia

The project was scheduled to be implemented from 8 August to 31 December 2016, by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Skopje and the Macedonian Red Cross. The goal of the project is the ad hoc improvement of the living conditions of flood victims in Macedonia.  The Polish donation falls within the scope of broad actions carried out by the Red Cross, which is active in areas most affected by the catastrophe, since the moment it has occurred. The donation will be entered in the budget for hygiene kits for about 4,200 people affected by the flood during the recent events. The Macedonian Red Cross will carry out an on-site inspection. It also has a database of people in Skopje and its vicinity who require assistance. The parcels will be distributed among the residents of the areas affected by the flood, together with the monthly Red Cross parcels.

The entire amount will be earmarked for the purchase of hygienic kits, which will be subsequently delivered to those in need. The donation provided by Poland will be used to purchase 1,200 hygienic parcels with such products as washing powder, toilet paper, soap or toothpaste. The Macedonian Red Cross will also order and distribute hygienic humanitarian parcels for flood victims.

For the purposes of calculation, the following exchange rate was applied: USD 1 = PLN 4.1749.
